Due to its distinctive appearance, limestone gives a rustic look to any home. Limestone is a beautiful sedimentary rock that's mainly composed of calcium carbonate. It's frequently used for paving entryways. The only problem with limestone entryways is that constant exposure to the sun, rain, and other weather conditions can deteriorate the stone and make its colors fade over time. That was exactly the case for a homeowner in Brentwood, TN. After years of being exposed to extreme weather conditions and all kinds of external agents, both of the limestone entryways in her home became severely deteriorated.

The homeowner was frustrated. She didn't know how to restore her natural stone surfaces and replacing them wasn't an option at the time. When she told one of her friends about the problem, her friend suggested looking for a professional stone cleaning company in Brentwood. Following her friend's advice, the homeowner performed an online search. She found our website in the top search results. After watching some of the video testimonials left by satisfied customers, she called to schedule a free consultation.

On the appointed date, we visited the client's home to perform the assessment. We quickly understood why we had been called. The limestone floors in both entryways were in poor condition. After a brief conversation with the homeowner, we confirmed our initial suspicions. The natural stone surfaces in both entryways hadn't been sealed in a long time. This allowed dirt, mold, and other external agents to settle into the stone's pores, causing it to appear dirty and discolored.

Limestone is quite soft compared to other natural stones. This means it has to be regularly maintained or it runs the risk of being severely damaged. Luckily the damage on the client's floors wasn't severe. Most of it had happened at a surface level, so we wouldn't need to perform any major repairs. To solve the problem, we would power wash both entryways and seal them with our proprietary products. We would also replace the decayed mortar in one of the surfaces with our own mix of epoxy grout. Feeling relieved because she now knew the floors could be restored, the homeowner agreed to the service.

We went back to the client's home a few days later to perform the service. We began by soaking the limestone surfaces with Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner to loosen the dirt that had settled deep into the stone. Thanks to its properties, this cleaner would also help remove the mold that had taken over some of the stairsteps. After we let it sit for a few minutes, we rinsed the cleaner off with a high-pressure washer. We continued washing the surfaces until they were perfectly clean. We also used a steam cleaner on some of the stairsteps to ensure the mold was completely eradicated.

When we finished cleaning both surfaces, we scraped out the old mortar from one of the entryways and replaced it with epoxy grout. On top of being resistant against water, stains, mold, and mildew, this epoxy-based grout mix contains all the necessary compounds to withstand all kinds of weather and heavy foot traffic. To finish, we sealed the limestone in both entryways with a Microguard High Durability Coating. Not only would this impregnating sealant protect the stone surfaces against weather conditions, abrasive wear, mold growth, and chemical damage, it would also enhance their overall appearance.

When we showed the client the results, she couldn't believe what we had achieved. She was surprised to see the natural color of the limestone was shining through. It even looked better than it did when they first bought the house. She thanked us and said she would recommend our services to her friends and family.

Prior to leaving, we gave the client some easy-to-follow recommendations to help her keep her limestone surfaces in good condition. Maintaining natural stone that's located outdoors can be a challenging task. Fortunately, the procedures we had performed on both surfaces would also facilitate their maintenance. We suggested sweeping the surfaces on a regular basis and cleaning the stone using pH-neutral stone-safe products like our proprietary cleaner. These two practices should keep both surfaces in great shape until our next maintenance session.
